So many times groups don't think about how to set a recording
budget. Recording the songs are just the beginning of having a
marketable product to sell. Think outside the box when determining how
much it will cost to put a product that you can be proud of, out on the
shelves of a store. Recording the songs are only the first step.
When the songs have been mixed, always ask for a copy from the studio so you
can listen and hone down anything that is unpleasing to your ears.
Make sure you are completely happy as once it goes to mastering you have to
live with something you could have changed when you had the chance. It
is better to spend a little more money to insure that you will be happy with
what you have done in years to come. Don't wait till the last week
before the project goes to Mastering to make the changes or you will be
quite unhappy when you have 1,000 or more CDs in front of you and you are
trying to sell something that you are not 100% satisfied with, I say this
from my own personal experience...
During the mixing process, you should be getting the graphic artwork
started so that by the time the project has been mastered you should be
ready to have the final artwork sent in with the Master CD to be pressed and
ready for replication.
The next faze to complete is to have a web site designed if you don't
already have one, that way when the CDs arrive, you will be able to sell
them via the internet, along with selling them at live performances and
record stores. Saturation is the key to successfully marketing your
CD.
