Making the right choices when starting a recording project!

Before you step into a recording studio, there are a few things that you should know before you make a big mistake and spend hard earned money on a project and be dissatisfied with the final product.  Producer "Dino Cuneo" has some helpful advise below.

  1. So many groups step into a recording studio thinking that it won't take too much time and much money to make a sellable product.  Think again! Most full projects cost between $3,000.00 to $25,000.00.  Being prepared can save you (THOUSANDS), so have your music polished as you don't want to be working on writing parts in the studio, it costs MONEY for the studio staff to be sitting around while you are figuring out your parts, and when you get the bill you will learn first hand what I mean.
  2. Bring CDs of other bands that you want your final product to sound like, for example; if you want a guitar to sound a certain way, give the engineer a window into your mind by giving an example of a guitar part of a song you like.  Studio's love to have bands that don't know exactly what they want, because that is money in there pockets.  BE PREPARED!
  3. Try to have an hours worth of music for your CD as you want to be able to substantiate charging $15 to $20 for your final product.  Usually the first 1,000 CDs you sell will pay for the cost of the recording-mixing-mastering and CD replication.  The second 1,000 you will make your profit.
